Our Purpose

CC’s Critter Haven is dedicated to providing compassionate end-of-life care for domestic pets that are unadoptable due to age or medical issues in the greater Sacramento area using traditional and holistic methods.

Some dogs are in shelters through no fault of their own. Sometimes their owner passes. Maybe they were surrendered due to medical costs. CC’s Critter Haven fills the need for those senior dogs to spend their remaining life in a loving home environment.

history and vision

Our History and Vision

Our vision is that all domestic pets have an opportunity to be accompanied through a peaceful passing where they are loved and provided a comforting home environment.

The idea came for CC’s Critter Haven while I was fostering for another rescue organization here in Sacramento.

As I walked through the shelter looking for the next possible foster dog, I saw a small brown sad-eyed senior dog. Her hair was a bit matted and her muzzle had gray. I asked if I could take this dog home. Unfortunately, the organization could not afford a dog with medical issues. I was unemployed due to the pandemic and could not afford her on my own.

CC’s Critter Haven was incorporated less than a year later in February of 2021. Since then, we have developed our Board and vision. CC’s Critter Haven is currently partnered with Bradshaw Animal Shelter.

About Our Founder

Hello, I'm Colleen Craig and I have always loved animals. I was gifted my first dog on my 5th birthday and she was a great comfort to me. She passed when I went off to college.

Currently I am blessed with a good job that has allowed me the freedom to pursue expanding the idea I had in 2020 to help all kinds of animals who are unlikely to be adopted through the regular process. I know many of these animals are euthanized as unadoptable.

It is important to me that we give senior animals the best life possible and to include alternative and natural healing modalities. After all, it helped me so much in my life.

Franklin's Story

Franklin was a sweet, chill boy who loved his people. He was found severely emaciated, full of fleas and skinny as can be, disoriented in the middle of the road on a hot summer day.

After a microchip check came up empty, the clinic staff said it was highly likely he'd be put down if surrendered. I didn't want his final moments to be spent alone on the cold shelter floor.  I decided to pay for his medical checkup and began treatments at home for his eyes, ears and skin.

He slept for days, snuggling up against his blanket, didn't fight me come bath time - a complete sweet heart. In a home environment and with regular medication his eyes and ears began to clear and his skin to shine.

Franklin’s back and hip issues were never resolved. His passing was emotional but we knew the extra months he enjoyed were surrounded by comfort and love.
